In 2018, I created the brand Barbe de Bois with a clear vision: to create responsible and sustainable leather goods.
My passion for vintage and French workwear plays a key role in my work. It’s from this inspiration that I draw, blending tradition and modernity to offer unique and timeless creations.

The items you will discover here are crafted from carefully selected Italian leathers, sourced from tanneries that are environmentally conscious and members of the Véritable Cuir au Tannage Végétal consortium.
Vegetable tanning is a process that involves immersing the hide in baths saturated with plant tannins derived from quebracho, mimosa, or oak bark. This process takes about four to six months, much longer than chemical mineral tanning, which only takes forty-eight hours. Although slower, vegetable tanning is a natural, non-toxic, and responsible method.
Each piece is entirely handmade, ensuring its authenticity and uniqueness.
VEGETABLE TANNING
To maintain your leather, I recommend using SMITH'S LEATHER BALM.
This balm helps preserve the quality of your leather items and gives them a beautiful patina over time.
Handcrafted by Shane & Mandy Smith in the state of Maine, this balm is made from only three natural ingredients:
